When assigning a static IP the only caveat is you want to choose an address that won't conflict with any others, including these DHCP auto-assigned addresses and any other static IP's or with the gateway and broadcast addresses. It uses DHCP to do this, and usually it attempts to give out the same address as before, but sometimes a new one is assigned. What's happening now is your router is assigning addresses to every device automatically. Static means it's manually assigned and doesn't change. ![]() WTF? You really need to learn how to set a static IP for your NAS but just telling you that isn't going to help.
